St Mary's Pipe Organ Rebuild Project
The Community Church Council has embarked on an ambitious programme to completely rebuild and extend the 1812 Gray and Davison organ which has been inside St Mary's Church since the 1850s.
This section of the website is devoted to the project, which aims to raise at least £150,000. The organ was dismantled during February 2016 and unfortunately came to an abrupt end with the untimely death of the organ building Peter Collins, and the subsequently demise of his company Peter Collins Ltd.
We are delighted that following a long period of consultation, the Oxford Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) has given its support for a revised scheme and this means that work may commence again soon, with Cousans Organs contracted to carry out the required works, under the guidance of Paul Hale, organ consultant. Currently all the pipes and the case have been transported to the organ builders workshop in Leicestershire.
Check back for regular updates and read through to find out more about the project as progress is made through the year. Most importantly, look at the various ways in which you can help us reach our target and save one of the only significant remaining pipe organs in the area.
